Default My UI updater

For the last few days i've been working on an updater for my UI.

Here few captures ( I did it in french but can translate )

So the current features:

01/04/08 - Download, uncompress and store in the right place my Drox ( a modded Drox with a new panel to activate/disactivate mods )
01/04/08 - A Install button appear if ur game setting is not set to use my drox. This button change ur .INI and copy the requested files to use the Drox, making sure you don't have those files already )
01/04/08 - An auto-update process is included to make sure my soft is up to date, if not it download the last .exe and auto-update itself.
01/04/08 - A systray option to put my soft in systray, so can check drox revision in backgroud.
02/04/08 - Multi-Language (English, French and german but can add within 10 sec others, just need some translators)
04/04/08 - Multi-UI capable

What i need to do:

- IF SORESHA AGREE AND CONTACT ME, an auto-update of the advanced-minimap mod (cause many interesting updates)
- A small popup when in systray to announce the new revision
- MAYBE a setting button to handle other UI
- An english translation of the soft
that's all i've got in mind so far

SO NOW WHAT I WANT:

If soresha and all UI makers ( main ones please ) can PM me so i can think about a way to make this soft handle all UIs.

Thx and if you've got an idea i can include ... let me know

I really like the Idea of this. Good work. I hope you get the input required from the Authors.

Very good idea indeed.

How would such a thing handle optional files like the user.ini or layout xml files? The reason I as is becasue many UIs come with multiple custom user.ini files due to the limited hotkey support and also multiple layout files.

This would help many people get around the basic problems of unzipping the UIs and getting the right folders into the right place.

If ManicUI is a big enough player, I would be willing to help beta the tool.

Hi there is no need to edit XML for this. I could do it this way but would be to much options and will make the tool hard to use. So far i want an easy to use tool so will have just a language option and an UI selector ( with the most common UIs ... if the owners of those UI want to be part of it )

It's easy to seek in a file to find a string then add anything u want. We'll see after when the main goal will be reached. So far i'm working on the translations and the setting menu to handle this (will be done today)

When i will end all i want to do i will maybe add an expert mode to customise the UI u choosed.

Ok, started to support other UI ( just started,, will be done tomorrow i think), will be funny cause everyone got his own little settings everywhere, but no prob, shouldn't be long.

So far will work on those UI:
- Official DroxUI
- CoreUI
- ManicUI
- Darker
- myUI
- My own drox modded (cause mine is the best on the market )

Info on my drox ( http://scoony.fr/?option=co...1:vg&Itemid=61 ) ffor the ones interested

I don't see much reply ... is my project useless ?

Soooo off to bed cya guys

Is it useless? Are you kidding me?? You just need to allow a little more time for UI authors to find your post that's all!

People have been asking about an auto-updater for InfoMap for AGES. However whilst it might not be beyond my abilities to write something, it has always been way beyond my time commitments to even think about it.

Having a single utility to do this for different mods is also a huge plus point, especially since InfoMap can be dropped straight into any compatible mod.

For InfoMap you'll need to have options for:
a) stand-alone installation
b) installation into any of the compatible mods

And also both:
c) installation of a full new version of the mod
d) installation of new data layers

Questions which come to mind are:
- Where are you downloading from? InfoMap is available in several places but the latest data layers are only on my website.
- How are you detecting new versions are available?
- Can your application be used as a way to launch the game? Ie:
1) user starts your application
2) app checks for new version of itself (update if found)
3) app checks for new version of mods (update if found)
4) app launches game (NB: Live or Test shortcut) and terminates itself

I can't see any IM details on your forum profile, but if you use IM please get my details from my profile and get in touch with me. Or send a PM if you don't want to use IM.
