the ability to create a minimalistic UI without any loss of information... i've tried to create an intelligent auto-hiding UI for eq2, so you don't see anything on the screen, except when "interacting" (fighting, crafting, npc interaction etc.) but it doesn't worked out very well due to some data being hard coded and not available to the modders.

Amen on the minamalistic UI. I like I UI that is crisp clean lines that you can move the peices around to edge one another, and forget they are there with the exception of the odd glance. Fluffy flurrled artistic edges that don't line up worth a flip are nice for the first few minutes, but then you ave to orginize the ui in a way that you can make sesne of the inmormation presented. It's kinda hard to do that if the pieces are taking up so much real estate you can't see the world, or other peices that may be more important than the one your filldling with.

Having not played WoW i wouldn't know about the add-ons, but it sounds nice. Someone mentioned maps in previous post. Perhaps an interface element that will allow you to trade maps with others you come across online. or import export map notations from player to player within the game via a system like item trade. Of course you'd have to have the ingame option to actually scribe the map you have for your personal use down into a ingame item, otherwise you would turn VG into a glorified file sharing program.

this is a great idea, if sigil posts a guy here like SOE_bobble we should really mention that, it would help immersion alot I think.

I loved ThorUI for EQ2. I am hoping to get some simple individual mods that decrease the size of the window on screen as at this stage I have a rather basic 17" CRT and probably won't be ugrading the monitor for a while. The other wish would be for some nice basic Celtic designs especially if they are conservative in the area they take up. I would like to see this just to give a touch of a celtic feel to the game. I may give it ago myself but at this stage have absolutely no experience in programming of any sort.

On the map theme I would love there to be discovery mapping only. The EQ2Map was a great mod but was full of spammed information and took away quite a bit of the new feeling of discovering the map. Unfortunately the in-game system lacked maps to some areas so you could never get the information without the add-on.

??? Someone liked that EQ2 Map????~shudders~
did they ever change it from that static piece of #@$! that they went live with?

Wish List:

Easy Modifications.

A HIGHLY VISIBLE CURSOR(am I the only one who loses their cursor in spell effects?)

A REAL,CUSTOMIZABLE MAP,not a cutesy ,useless picture that you cannot update(think the EQ2 map where I said Cutesy, useless picture),Something similar to the EQ Map(IMHO one of the best in game maps I ever saw)

A UI that does not take up so much of the viewing area.(maybe working the UI around the perimiter of the viewing area, kind of like a picture frame -esque set up

By the way,I ran screaming from EQ2 after only a few Months, was amazed that a game could have so many bright points yet still disappoint like socks or underwear on Christmas for a child.I Pray to the Gaming Gods that this is not going to be another MMORPG that sets you up for a letdown(IE EQ2(do you get the impression I did not like EQ2?)
Did they ever make the map more than a picture?

EverQuest II has had 20 major updates (a couple completely changing the newbie experience), 2 mini expansions (adventure packs), and 2 major expansions. Its nothing like it was at launch, at least that’s what I hear from those people trying it again. Not trying to sell you on this game, just letting you know things have changed alot.

The map is still a static image however what is nice about the system is it allows interface developers to add their own maps and points of interest. I think that’s what people like about EQ2’s map interface. Sigil could go this route and improve upon it and I think you’d have the ultimate map system. In my opinion the more control you give interface authors in this area the happier every one is going to be.

I apologize for that outburst,it was uncalled for, guess EQ2 is still a sore subject for me.Personal preferences are personal preferences, and we'll leave it at that.
I am sorry for any offense I may have engendered, but not for my Opinion....I'll just stay far away from any post concerning EQ2 in the future

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and it's okay to say "I don't like X". Just do it constructively.

No worries, all is good.

Default Ui wishlists

A "hits mode" that you can customize.....or at least set to where you just see the actual damage in numbers not:

[Uber Spiderling from Hell] hit's you for 4 points crushing damage.
[You] miss Uber Spiderling from Hell.
[Kindly Drive-by Cleric] Heals you for 3.

Call me crazy but all I really want to know is:

4
Miss!
3

I'm not a huge fan of WoW, but I really liked the mini-map in the UI. A small constant map showing a limited area around where you were. You could get your bearings at a glance without being taken out of the moment by opening some huge clunky map window that took up a quarter of your screen. Something like that would be great. It would be even better if viewing a small area around you were there "only" in game map because you would still have to go explore, you'd still have to learn the zones, and getting lost is still an option!

I was happy to see in a couple ui screen shots of VG that the default ui seems to be minimalistic. I like neat, clean and functional ui's. The game should be the eye candy, not the ui, imo.
