[[$Date: 2024-04-18 12:55:26 -0700 (Wed, 18 Apr 2024) $]]

Compatible with April 18th Patch (01809)
Last Updated April 18th

*** Revision 96 Is a MAJOR update. Please delete your old Boxed directory. ***

Features
  • Smaller Player/Group/Target Windows that have larger bars for easy viewing
  • Reworking of the Main bar windows meant to be sleeker and visually appealing
  • Modified window borders that match the theme of the main bar components.
  • Automatically changing experience bar to reflect what you are currently doing, be it adventuring crafting harvesting or diplomacy
  • Settings window for customization with the ability to turn on off windows you do not want.
  • Various other skinned window elements.
  • Support for the Map Standard.
  • Ryuno's InfoPanel mod and plugins have been included.
  • Large quest window that includes quest levels for easier viewing.
Upcoming Changes
  • More to come soon
How do I Install?
  1. Open up your Vanguard install folder (default: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vanguard).
  2. Open the bin folder, and find vgclient.ini. If you can't find this file, you will need to log fully into the game, then exit. The file should then have been created.
If you still can't find it, check in C:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\bin, it might be put there if it can't put it in Vanguard folder..
  3. Open vgclient.ini and search for [UI] and below it change ShellName=Default to ShellName=Boxed
  4. Save the file and exit.
  5. Download the zip file, and copy the folder Boxed inside to VGUIAssets\Shells in your Vanguard install folder.
  6. Boot up the game and enjoy.
Tips
This interface hides the control window by default. This window has the social, map, character, settings buttons on it. You can show it by going into the boxed settings window and turning on Control Window on the Windows tab
To get to the boxed settings window press escape until the game settings window pops up and select Boxed Settings.

** Please be aware Darker Boxed and Boxed Silver are not supported by me. If you have problems with them direct that towards the releasing author **

ChangeLog
  • r96 Apr 18
    • Made some changes to the tooltips.
    • Slight Modification to the MiniMap
    • Slight modifications to the casting bars to make them fit in.
    • Fixed issue preventing the Main Hotkeys bar from being hidden.
    • Minor to Major graphical changes. Not all graphics that are intended to be reworked have been so more to come
    • All UnitFrame windows have had a major rework. Welcoming class icons back to the interface.
    • Offensive Target window had the attached ability size increased to be more visible.
    • Pet health is no longer displayed with the player status. Instead a health bar has been added to the pet commands window.
    • Many of the window names have been changed. They will revert to their default location/state and you will need to set up missing elements.
    • Fozzik's TinyStrat is included and is the default diplo strategy window.
    • Completely removed Nadger's HUDs. They are causing too much client lag.
    • Special Thanks: Seven_PRX, MooKitty, Hanzou_Masamori, Puffy, and wookiefoot for helping to make this revision one of the best.
  • r86 Mar 10
    • Slimmer borders to make windows appear less chunky
    • The pet health bar attached to the player status is back to showing completely.
    • The quest/status windows will now properly display sphere levels larger than 2 digits.
    • The player and group members name tags are now Bold instead of BoldItalic
    • Fixed quest status window, quest names will no longer overlap the status text when the name takes up 2 lines
    • 12Hour clock added to the infopanel. Check InfoPanel->Plugins tab to enable.
    • Hopefully fixed the group member issues. I spent a couple hours in a full group and saw no problems after the change
    • The Horizontal group window had its name changed. Users using this window will need to switch to the vert and then back.
    • As always if you notice that the problem persists post about it.
  • r84 Mar 07
    • Slimmer borders to make windows appear less chunky
    • Anti group targets should now be easier to select when clicked.
    • Experience bar text now easier to see and displays: xx% - xxxx/2000
    • New quest window with larger panes for easier access of quests.
    • Quest levels are now displayed in the quest window and quest tracking window
    • NOTE: Certain text in windows will appear differently. This was the look in beta and a vanguard fix allows me to re-add it.
    • NOTE: It is recommended that you update after the March 6th patch. Otherwise many fonts will look odd due to the above fix
  • r79 Feb 12
    • Fixed horizontal group direction indicator
    • Fixed issue with banking coin.

Vanguard fixes all performance problems. fps now 600. Thank you.

I am looking into various other bar configurations so don't think I ignored you about wanting a taller end bar.

Just logged in and the fps thing is an issue with vanguard. Hovering over the lag meter is fun stuff though

Well, the 'normal' FPS/lag meter seems to work fine to me, just the VGPanelInfo one isn't working.

Just a quick repost here from some of the idea's from the last forum:

Wookiefoot suggested making an option to place the Offensive target Buff/Debuff icons on a different spot than only below the Offensive Target Window.

I really liked that idea, and perhaps you could include these options:

1) Left, Right, Above, Below (default)
2) Add options to make the Buffs go Up or Down.

Option 2, and then specifically the option Up would be interesting if you put your Target Offensive Window at the bottom of your screen, just above your hotbars/chat windows. What you would achieve with this, is that the Buff Icons would not go under your hotbars/chat windows, but will go upwards so you can see them.

As an example, look @ the attached pic. In the middle, lower side of the screen, you see my offensive window. As you can see, the buff icons go under my chat windows.

With the new options, I would set the buff Icons to go the Right side of the Window, and then to display the icons Upwards, so they don't go under the chat window.

Re: the new Groupmember Windows (& Self):

One of the reasons I started using Boxed was because I like the fact that it was a very 'basic' UI. Adding the new Class Icons back to the Group Windows is a step back in my opinion. It actually made the bars larger (vertically), taking up more space.

Personally, I would love to see the old Windows back, but then with these things from the new windows:

1) Shorter Horizontally like the new ones are
2) Adding the Bigger Arrow like the new one
3) The new Colours being used
4) The Energy/hp bars showing the total numbers like they do in the new one.
(Ok, so basicly thats the new windows, minus the Class Icon, and with a larger endurance bar

And us meleers really can use a larger endurance bar, preferably showing the total numbers like they show on HP/energy.

I haven't been able to test yet if the 'lag' problems I was having with r94 are gone with r95 or r96, because I have only been soloing since those releases. Because the 'lag' was the biggest issue I was having with the new versions. When I know more, I'll post of course.

And keep up the good work :-)

Default Just for fun...

Parmon,

I want to thank you for your work and say that r96 has been working wonderfully for me.

I'm attaching a screen shot of how I use your UI just for fun.

Changes I've made:

1. Re-included Nadger's HUD ( Couldn't live with out it ) I did remove all HUD options and versions except for the one I use ( KinkedHUD ). I don't seem to notice to much lag with it included.

2. CMOD's Buff window. I like text vs. Icon only /shrug

3. Drox's Melee & Ranged bars - as a Bard, I'm always forgetting to swap weapons and this helps me know what's equip'd.

Thanks again Parmon!

Looks good wookie. I think more people modifying a project with what they want helps give more variety later on as some people decide to release their own work later on.

As I keep saying, if people didn't hate my ui so much we might not have seen so many other great things pop up.

About the future. I am taking 3-4 days away from the ui to relax and play. Updates for this time period are reserved for major bugs. I have some good insight to work on.
