Description
Download Patch 1.3

CustomUI is not a new user interface.

It is a UI 'toolbox' that allows you to mix & match components from different user interfaces to create your own unique UI.

CustomUI is a database program (MS Access) that creates new Index.xml and SkinInfo.xml files based on the components you select. Since you select only what you plan to use, your CustomUI can be optimized for better performance.

For full details and installation instructions, please read the online User Guide.

The initial installation requires a few more steps than the standard UI installation, but future updates should be very simple.

This version of the program includes the latest versions of Drox, Core, Darker, myUI and InfoMap. All components from the Default UI are also available in the CustomUI 'toolbox'.

If you like your current UI, but wish it had additional features, or if you want an easy way to try out different UIs, then CustomUI is just what you are looking for !

Features:
  • All components from the Default UI, Core, Drox, Darker, and myUI
  • CorePlus - a Core-based UI mod with some of the best features from other UIs
  • A Save/Load utility that lets you save your favorite configurations
  • Scrollable & sizeable quest status window
  • 10 user-defined website links that open in the new in-game browser
  • 3 map selections - InfoMap Advanced, the default map, and the 'old style' maps used when Vanguard launched
  • 20-button Shortcut Panel for fast execution of common commands
  • Quick Emotes window, with buttons for dozens of character emotes
  • Too much to choose from ? Use the built-in filter to hide components from UIs you don't want to use
  • Fully detailed User Guide & Installation Instructions
  • and much more...
To upgrade CustomUI to the latest version of InfoMap (1.9 )
  1. Download the new version of InfoMap.
  2. Delete the contents of the CustomUI\InfoMap folder.
  3. Copy the contents of the InfoMapAdvanced\Map folder into the CustomUI\InfoMap folder.
  4. Start Vanguard

  1. Cool, so, if I wanted to be "efficient", could I delete the contents of each of the UIs subdirs (at work so not sure if this is a dumb question lol - I mean I am assuming subs are like map, textures, etc) and then copy the contents from the revision to the old dirs? The reason for this is so I don't have "lingering" files if between versions they removed a deprecated file (example v2.4 of Drox has textures/deprecatedTexture.ext and the 2.6.1 does not. IF I just copy all the equiv directories, I will have the new files plus the "dangling" unused stuff. I hope I explained that sufficiently ("well" is too much to hope for)
  2. "This is a UI mod that I put together using the CustomUI program, and it is available as a 'Base UI' option in the program. It is 98% Core UI, with the Compass/Clock and Background Panels from Drox, the Default UI horizontal buff bar, and my Shortcut Panel and Quick Emotes." Oops didn't realize that was a LITERAL decription - cool.
  3. OKies, if they do, and since we cannot add new projects ourselves, then I can just use that mod's crafting which = Maddycraft.
  4. Perhaps the next release can add like 2-4 more "dummy" mods (ie: copies of "default") where we can place replacements from other mods or partial mods? Like, if you follow... let's say none of the mods you included used Maddycraft for their Crafting. I could go to DummyMod1 and replace all the VGUICrafting.xml etc stuff in it with the Maddycraft stuff as per their instructions and choose for my mod's crafting: DummyMod::VGUICrafting option (which is really MMaddycraft, if u get what I mean...)
Hey Sigurd, thanks for the invite to the FA group the other night ! I'm glad to finally get past that part.

Anyway, to answer your questions:
  1. This may not work because you might delete files that I have modified. For example, in most of the UIs I had to split their Main Menu and Main Bars into separate files. Usually I add "CUI" to the file name when I do this. If you are careful you might be able to do it.
  2. Yes
  3. That's a great idea ! I will see if I can do something like that in the future.

Awesome work. Couple questions:
1. If there is an update to a mod, example Drox 2.6.1 as continued by Creat or some new Core etc, can we overwrite the subdirs or were they (I presume) tweaked by you to fit this system? I believe I read that Creat updated Journal to be up to date, I assume meaning the Craft/Adv/Dip tabs etc.

2. What is CoreUIPlus? I mean, what did you mix and match? I can look at the tabs since I installed it, but for those who haven't yet - could you list the components from other mods?

3. Is there anything to be aware of if we want to also add in a mod like MaddyCraft? Since it isn't on the tabs, if we manually replaced files would it be reset if changed base UIs? (Im pretty sure ya, but that won't be common for most - just tryig to clarify)

4. Anychance on a "HOWTO" on how to add those extra mods like Maddy? I assume we would need to populate the Access tables and the UI app will just display what it finds, but how does it "activate" your choices?

(I'm a C++ dev, but I have next to no scripting experience other than application startup shell scripts in UNIX.)

Hi Sigurd !

To answer your questions:
  1. You can overwrite existing files with a new version, but don't change the folder structure. The database won't know to look in new folders.
  2. CorePlus is described in the User Guide. "This is a UI mod that I put together using the CustomUI program, and it is available as a 'Base UI' option in the program. It is 98% Core UI, with the Compass/Clock and Background Panels from Drox, the Default UI horizontal buff bar, and my Shortcut Panel and Quick Emotes."
  3. I'm pretty sure one or more of the included UIs use MaddyCraft, but I can't remember if I included that in the description. You might try some and see. I don't craft so I can't tell one from another. If you manually replaced the crafting files in the Core folder, for example, as long as the names are the same and you select them for your UI then they should work fine.
  4. At this time the program does not allow users to add new entries to the database. I may add that functionality later. For now, all you can do is replace existing files with others of the same name.
Hope that answers your questions.

Thanks for the quick reply. I assumed that the patch was for people upgrading from an earlier version. Oops! It works just fine now and is as fantastic as I thought it would be =)

I seem to be having the same problem Merd was having. I'm using windows vista and the default path for installing programs is Program Files (x86). When i try to save my UI changes it tells me Error 76 Path not found. I tried copying over just the UI stuff to C:\program files\ etc etc but that didn't work either. I tried relinking the database files by manually going to the c:\program files (x86) and it says it worked, but then when i try to save it still says Error 76. When i go back to relink again it has redefaulted to c:\Program Files instead of C:\program files (x86). Has anyone found a way around this?

I just don't understand why on the Instructions tab it will accept me changing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Vanguard but it won't save that information on the Utilities tab Re-link tables.

(also this is a fresh install of vista, however I don't have ms office installed, I just downloaded the office runtimes. I also tried copying the entire game over to C:\games\vanguard and it doesn't matter where it is. It will update the location and save it on the instructions tab, but it won't save it on the Utilities tab.)

Did you apply Patch 1.3 ? I believe I fixed the path issues in that patch.

Re: ManicUI Support?

Any update on getting ManicUI into this? I saw a note on your help page that you wanted to include ManicUI in the future. I originally tried CustomUI and liked the ability to mix and math, but then I found ManicUI and absolutely LOVE it. For now that is what i'm using, but as soon as CustomUI support ManicUI then i'd love to start using this again to mix and match a few pieces.

I do plan to include ManicUI very soon - probably when GU6 goes live and all the UI authors have updated their UIs.

I truely love this mod,

It made it possible to have my ultimate ui, one thing wurrie's me an bit tho. Will it be compatible with the new ui changes on test ?

Most ui who'm are used in customui will get an update, i have even seen some test versions already. But is it possible to just copy those updated files in the customui dir, or do i have to wait until the author fixes this.

Not to shure how populair this ui is, and if the author will keep it updated for the new ui changes.

Thanks Iwens, I'm glad this is working well for you.

I do plan to keep this program updated as UI authors make changes to their UIs. If the day comes that I should ever leave Vanguard I will make all source code available to the community so others can continue. But, just so you know, I do plan on sticking around a long time.

To answer your question, yes you can download updated UI files and copy them into the appropriate Custom UI folder. There are a few exceptions where I have modified the original files to work better in a mixed-UI environment, and these exceptions include most of the Main Menu files.

So, if there is an update to CoreUI for example, you can just download the latest CoreUI from VGInterface and extract it to a temp folder. Sort the files by date modified (descending) to identify the files that have been changed. Then copy those files to the appropriate Custom UI folder, replacing the existing files. If you are using those files in your CustomUI then the new versions will automatically be used in the game.

When UI authors put out updates, I check to see if they are significant enough for me to put out a patch to CustomUI. If not, then I just wait until there are enough changes in one or more UIs to put out a patch.

But, for those of you who are anxious to have the latest changes, you can use the steps above to keep current.

I didn't forget, I just didn't see the point of uploading the same InfoMap files in my patch that you can get directly from Soresha's site.

What I did forget was to put instructions on this forum on how to upgrade. I did put them on the Vanguard General Discussion forum.

To upgrade CustomUI to the latest version of InfoMap (1.8 )
  1. Download the new version of InfoMap.
  2. Copy the contents of the InfoMapAdvanced\Map folder into the CustomUI\InfoMap folder, replacing all files and sub-folders.
  3. Start Vanguard

I was having the same problem. I think Slyde forgot to get the updated version of InfoMap. Download the newest version of InfoMap and copy the contents of the Map directory to the InfoMap directory in the CustomUI one.

Anyone else having a problem with the InfoMap in this plugin? I don' tknow if i'm selecting the wrong things, or what but i'm selecting the InfoMap, not the InfoMap (Old Version), and when I get in game its all messed up. The map can't be panned, or zoomed at all and it always displays the wrong location.

Talking It's working.

Happy to say that everything is working for me now. It was something hinky with MS Office. Also, there was something fundamentally wrong with my system. I've been needing to do a fresh install for a while, so I took this as a chance to do that, and everything's running smooth now.

Can't wait to use my customized UI!

Huge kudos go to Slyde for this ingenious feat!
