What is CustomUI ?
CustomUI is not a new user interface.
It is a UI 'toolbox' that allows you to mix & match components from different user interfaces to create your own unique UI.
CustomUI is a database program (MS Access) that creates new Index.xml and SkinInfo.xml files based on the components you select. Since you select only what you plan to use, your CustomUI can be optimized for better performance.
This version of the program includes the latest versions of Drox, Core, Darker, myUI, ManicUI and InfoMap. All components from the Default UI are also available in the CustomUI 'toolbox'.
If you like your current UI, but wish it had additional features, or if you want an easy way to try out different UIs, then CustomUI is just what you are looking for !
Features:- All UI components from Core, Darker, Drox, Manic, and myUI interfaces, as well as the Vanguard Default UI.
- CorePlus (the UI I use) is an example of a UI created by CustomUI, which contains components from several UIs.
- A Save/Load utility that lets you save your favorite configurations
- 10 user-defined website links that open in the new in-game browser
- Smaller versions of several hotbars, including a new 3x12 hotbar which can be sized to show between 1-36 buttons
- 3 map selections - InfoMap Advanced, the default map, and the 'old style' maps used when Vanguard launched
- 20-button Shortcut Panel for fast execution of common commands
- Quick Emotes window, with dozens of buttons for character emotes
- A built-in filter to hide components from UIs you don't want to use (makes it easier to find what you want)
- Fully detailed User Guide & Installation Instructions
- and much more...
Installation
The initial installation requires a few more steps than the standard UI installation, but future updates should be very simple.
For full details and installation instructions, please read the online User Guide.
Since all of the files for the different UIs are included in CustomUI, the download size is now exceeding 30MB. So, I have decided to break up the download into several modules.
The big Download button on this site now only downloads the CustomUI database first-time installation program. All of the individual UI modules should be downloaded and installed separately.
In the future, when updates are made to a specific UI, you only need to download and install that module.
First, intall the database program.
New Intallation: Click the big Download button on this site to download the database program.
OR
Upgrade: Download and install the CustomUI Database (3/25/09) *NEW*
Next, install each of the UI modules. - Download and install the CustomUI Module. (2/4/09)
- Download and install the CoreUI Module. (2/6/09) *NEW*
- Download and install the DarkerUI Module. (2/4/09) *NEW*
- Download and install the DroxUI Module. (1/4/09)
- Download and install the ManicUI Module. (10/23/08)
- Download and install the myUI Module. (2/7/09) *NEW*
The CustomUI Module (above) includes InfoMap 2.0
To upgrade CustomUI to newer versions of InfoMap when they become available:- Download the new version of InfoMap.
- Delete the contents of the CustomUI\InfoMap folder.
- Copy the contents of the InfoMapAdvanced\Map folder into the CustomUI\InfoMap folder.
- Start Vanguard

is it possible to have the vg default ui as a starting point instead of being forced to pick an alternative ui to begin the custom setup ?

I'm using MyUI as the base; haven't tried another as the base with the Manic Healer Bar.
I'll try that tonight.

Re: Problem with ManicUI Components
I would really love to use the ManicUI healer hotbar but cannot get it to work 100%..
I can get it to load but the health/mana bars dont seem to work.
Anyone have any ideas?
I will try to take a look at it this weekend.
What is your Base UI ? If it's not Manic it may have a conflict with the Healer Bar.

Re: Modules update ? + a request
Will there be an update to the core module soon ?
And could the combo key mod be added, prehaps to the addon section....
Uploaded the new version of Core for CustomUI.
The link for that combo key mod doesn't work, so I can't check on that.

Re: Adding features from other UI's
Slyde is there a way to add stand alone features into the Custom UI data base, i.e. Maddy Craft, so that features like those found in M.C. can be used say in say a Drox base layout? I use M.C. as an example as there are other stand alone components I would like to add to my exsisting UI config utilizing CUstom UI but do not want to go into naming them all here.
Hi Khaelle, some of the included UIs (Core, for example) use the Maddy Craft crafting windows, so you just need to select those for your Custom UI.
As for other add-ons, I would have to test each one and add them individually to the database.

Hi Sigurd, thanks for the compliments. See my comments below.
I just setup my replacement backup pc and tried again to install CustomUI.
I am just FLOORED by how excellant a product/idea this mod system is. However, I seem to always do something wrong it seems... No, I am no computer illerate, I came up in the old Z80/6502/6510 days all through every DOS/Windows from 2.10/2.0 etc thru XP & Gentoo (haven't messed with VIsta) I'm a senior software engineer. I have been known to even successfully program a VCR recording from time to time... You must be almost as old as I am
BUT... I am spazzing out on Custom. I did a clean XP/VG install (had to, new system) and then installed Custom and each of the packs as directed. Copied the bin dir over (backed up user.ini) etc.
Selected Core3 as my base.
All looked good, didn't try 'changing' much just an initial startup (I wish I had exercised the core submenu then to be sure...)
But when I went back and started picking different HUDs (some in addition to display more than one and compare) and when I tried picking various shortcut/emotes to find the one I was looing for I had seen on SS's, I found that ther CORE gui button int eh Custom Settings didn't actually turn some windows on or off in other cases. If you are referring to the Core combat HUD packs (by Nadger) some of them will only work if you select 'Nadgers HUD Pack' in the Darker UI. If you are referring to the Info HUDs like STR, WIS, DPS, etc then those should work from any of the UIs that offer them. You just need to select the Control panel for that UI.
I did not DE-select muchof anything in the Custom GUI exe, I just added some other GUI features but the features I left as CORE were having issues sometimes. If you do not de-select duplicates you may get odd results. Some will work fine, others will toggle on/off alternately (1st click opens 1 window, 2nd click closes that one but opens another, 3rd click closes it - stuff like that).
The problem is that UI authors often use the same names for things. So, say you have the Info HUDS for both Drox and Core selected and you wasnt to show DPS from Core but not Drox. Well, if the component has the same name in both you may have a problem getting only 1 to show.
I cannot specifically recall but it is the second time I experience this. Since I know Syde uses this and many others - I have to assume for them the settings windows will work to display/undisplay features from Core...
The settings window should be able to control all components from Core that you have selected. This applies to the Settings windows for all of the UIs.
I assume if you add a feature from Drox, u cannot use the Drox settings button in Custom control settings popup b./c it isnt your BASE gui and u instead need to turn it on and off via the external gui...? right? No, the Drox Settings window should be able to control all Drox components that you have selected. However, if you have also selected a Core component with the same name you may have problems.
The Base UI primarily determines the textures that will be used. For example, you could select myUI as your base UI but then unselect all myUI components and select all Drox instead. I haven't tried this but you would probably get a Drox UI with myUI textures.
But the base system doesn't seem to be 'right' for me. I also noticed the Custom_Core sub did not have the external CORE editor which I later d'l when I switched to vanila Core.
The external Core program is where I got the idea for CustomUI - it works pretty much the same way but on a much smaller scale. Both programs modify the Index.xml file (CustomUI creates it from scratch each time you Save your UI). You could use the Core program to resize your hotkey bars and then copy that file into the CustomUI/Windows_Core folder.
I really want to merge a few things together PLUS even without the merging, I LOVE having the external app to be able to later turn onand off windows without xml file editing/commenting. I think that alone is work the price of admission (*well so to speak since Slyde gives this away )
Any idea what I can be doing wrong in the general setup?
Make small changes - 1 or 2 at a time. Save it, then toggle back into Vanguard and use /reloadui. It sounds like you had it working with just Core but then had problems once you started adding things without de-selecting duplicates.
If anyone on a weekend (not this one prob) can go on voice to try to see if what I am experiencing is wrong or not, maybe it is a perception/expectation thing? Anyhow I know details aren't here - I tried this last Sat or Sunday. Sorry

Re: Re: Re: Setting change issues
Slyde, is there a way to add/remove a single UI feature from another base UI without Custom resetting to default?
Specific issue, I was using Drox as my base, Drox's quest log cannot display all the rewards from the Hegnarion & co. Shard quests. So I went and using the Access database turned on Core's quest log. Accepted changes. Restarted and yes now I have Core's quest log, BUT!!! Every single window, hotbar, info object has now been reset. Things I had off are back on, things I moved around are back to default, etc...
I truly do not want to have to play the hour long game of reworking my UI everytime I add or remove some feature. Or is that just the price for having access to more than a single UI's feature set?
That should not happen unless you also changed the Base UI. If you left the Base UI as Drox, un-selected the Drox Quest Log, and selected the Core Quest Log, then clicked the red Save Changes button, it should have worked as you expected.
I will test it tonight if I get a chance.
It might be because the base UI always defaults to Core when I open the database, not the Drox I was using?
edit: Did a complete fresh reinstall. Something was corrupted and now all seems to be working properly. Settings are saving and Core is no longer the default regardless of what I had previously selected.
That's great, I'm glad you fixed it because i was unable to recreate the problem on my PC.
